Nolan Ryan and the group that he has put together have reached an agreement with owner Tom Hicks to purchase the Texas Rangers.
The purchase price is expected to be more than $500 million, and the two sides have been working relentlessly to get a deal done.
The deal will now have to be reviewed by the MLB owners and get an approval of 75 percent. I highly doubt that will be an issue in this case.
Hicks had to sell the team to try and pay off some of his debt, but has already stated that will not be selling his NHL team, the Dallas Stars.
The owner initially tried to find a group of local investors to help him maintain control of the club, but those efforts did not prove successful.

The Texas Rangers and star outfielder Josh Hamilton have agreed on a one-year contract worth $3.25 million.
Considering how crazy baseball salaries can be, it’s amazing that Hamilton is making less than $4 million per year.
He may not be the best player in baseball, but his skills combined with that contract certainly make him one of the best deals.
Then again, Hamilton is coming off of a very disappointing, injury plagued season.
Hamilton hit just .268 with only 10 home runs and 54 RBI’s, which is certainly well below expecations.

The Texas Rangers have signed free agent outfielder Vladamir Guerrero to a one-year contract worth $6.5 million.
The team is hopeful that they can get a great year out of Guerrero, who will be playing for another contract.
There is also a mutual option for the 2011 season that can be exercised should things work out for both sides.
It’s unlikely that Guerrero will be anything but a designated hitter with the Rangers, but he certainly adds some pop to the lineup.
Guerrero is excited about the possibility of hitting in a ballpark where he has had a lot of success in the past.
