Washington admits cocaine use
Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington admitted that he used cocaine during the All-Star Break last year and is now being tested more often by Major League Baseball.
Washington knew he was going to test positive so he went to the Rangers and told them what to expect, apologized and offered his resignation.
However, the Rangers decided not to accept the resignation. Instead, they decided it was an isolated incident and that Washington at least deserved a second chance.
Washington has guided the Rangers to a better record in each of his three seasons and the team competed for a wild card berth in 2009.
The manager admitted that he had one weak moment where he made a terrible choice and is adamant that he will be stronger and never use cocaine again.
